Shirley Huntley Marriage Equality Flyer

Shirley Huntley - LGBT Marriage Equality Protest Flyer - Connecting Rainbows

Shirley Huntley Has No Dream

At noon on Wednesday, LGBTQ activists demonstrated in front and visited the office of Queens Senator Shirley Huntely in Jamaica Queens calling upon her to be a champion for full civil rights, including marriage equality for LGBTQ Americans.

Protesters unfurled a 20' banner that stated, "Sen. Shirley Huntley Marched in Selma and Didn't Learn a Thing," while blaring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, giving her a much needed wake-up call.

In 2009, Senator Huntely voted "No" on the marriage equality bill, which would grant same-sex couples the same 1,324 legal protections that opposite-sex couples already have. When asked the reason for her vote, she explained that she was speaking on behalf of her constituency in district 10.

This protest was organised by members of Connecting Rainbows.

LGBT Activists and Allies Please feel free to use my Photos and YouTubes with Love Suzannah B. Troy

Dear Activists and Allies:

I set up this blog and YouTube to hand over to Louis Flores.   He and Alan made an Olympic effort to organize and create the powerful haunting photos of all those that died to young and because of prejudice.

To show support I carried around my Ipad and Iphone and filmed and photographed as much as possible.  My Ipad ran out of room when Louis Flores was reading the names of all the dead who’s memory we honor so I came up with the idea of using the stars in the sky and rolling down the names of Our Dead.   I am straight but anymore murdered LGBT member that has been murdered or harassed to death are ALL our dead!

I haven’t had time to go through all the photos and video footage but if any activist needs access please contact Louis or me and we will arrange access.

Please feel free to use any and all photos and YouTubes of mine to share documentation of this powerful and deeply meaningful even, our Peaceful Protest, St. Pat’s 2011.
I
Thanks love and peace,
Suzannah B. Troy
p.s.  Very tired straight ally and FYI, I  do have a gay man trapped inside me but he’s is from the 70’s, I have never been married but I believe in equality for all and equality brings Peace and can hopefully bring an end to violence for the Gay community and anyone following my work knows I am fighting against violence, rapes and murders of our female global community.

Although straight I have been gay bashed.

Gathering to Protest Easter Day Parade 2011 NYC

Somber Moment Facing St. Patricks With Our Brave Souls

I really had anxiety about getting the big crowds to make room.  I said we need a Passover Miracle, a parting of the Red Sea and we got it!

The entire day was miraculous.
For two days it said rain and we got sun.

We were afraid the NYPD would harass us and discriminate against us on behalf of the Church and prevent our representatives from lighting candles but again everything was harmonious and peaceful.

We felt people got our message and the press really stepped up.

The signs were deeply, deeply moving and will be used again in future protests.

Peace, Love and Equality.  S

Anti-Gay Marriage Literature Handed Out inside a church in Queens On Easter Sunday

Gay Marriage Activists Take on Easter, the Royal Wedding By The Village Voice

http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/04/gay_marriage_ac.php

Last week, the appropriateness of taking on Easter was being debated by gay activists on Twitter, with some shrinking from getting in Christians' faces too much on the holiest day of that religion's year. But even despite the lack of arrests, the event got a lot more publicity than Queer Rising's last action, and the protests were not especially confrontational. It looked like that rarest of events: activists preaching beyond the choir, and talking to a new audience without screaming.

Associated Press Picks Up our LGBT Easter Day Protest

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/04/24/2247062/nys-easter-parade-tradition-both.html

The AP will write one story, and then they let all of the news outlets that participate in the association, print the same story.  It is like a retweet (think about that as an example).  The AP can make a story go viral.  That is what has happened.

"People are dying as a result of homophobia," said Louis Flores, an organizer from Connecting Rainbows.
His group is critical of the Catholic Church's opposition to same-sex marriage.
"The Catholic Church is still our main obstacle," said Jake Goodman, of Queer Rising. "They are demonizing gay people."
